The secondary, grey, black and green market.
Essentially the secondary market is the supply of new open box and refurbished networking equipment. According to some manufacturers this market has been painted as a no go area, the logic of their argument is self-serving “You can’t trust anything or anyone else, buy directly and only buy new equipment”.

The grey market is simply a problem of manufacturers not being able to control sales regions within the global economy. There is nothing wrong with this; it is a matter of market forces creating a price opportunity.
The black market deals in stolen or counterfeit goods. A rule of thumb is if the price is too good to be true, then it is!

The term secondary market is rather clumsy, and perhaps a better way to describe it is the "green market".

It is clearly far better to recover and reuse equipment where possible and that is the position of Hardware.com.

Why buy refurbished “green” equipment from Hardware.com?
Once considered an alternative means of cutting IT costs, buying used network equipment is now becoming mainstream; holding spares, decreasing lead times and test equipment outside the live environment.

The key reasons for buying used kit:

Price: Used computer hardware and equipment could save you up to 90% off the price of new equipment. Think long-term: because used equipment offers the same quality product at a discounted price, you achieve a better overall Return on Investment.

Speed: Hardware.com can often ship your pre-owned equipment SAME DAY from our £10 million inventory. Because we keep our own stock, we don’t have to wait for merchandise to be shipped out from the manufacturer, which translates to quicker ship times and bigger savings for you.

Performance: The same performance as new equipment with more configuration options, such as higher capacity memory, etc.
Reliability: Used/refurbished Hardware.com equipment is ‘Hardware.com certified’ meaning it is fully tested, refurbished and guaranteed before being released for sale.

Warranty: Standard 1 year return to base for all Cisco equipment and you can increase your cover with Smartpac Support if required

Value: Used/refurbished systems have already depreciated and will retain their remaining value, whereas new systems lose their value within 1-3 years.

Choice: We have many available models, from versions you currently have up to the latest and greatest versions.

Quality Assurance: The general industry timeline for networking equipment to fail is within its first 48 hours of operation. With used or refurbished computer equipment, this risk is greatly reduced because it has already been tested and used.
